Time to put away the ice gear and get open water equipment ready to go! fish hatchery bay on Waska is hot for crappies and bass. Bass season is closed but crappies are good to keep. Nothing in Starbuck marina yet. Water is still too cold but this could change any day. Another early lake for crappies is Pocket lake. This is an early ice out and it is good to hear some fish being caught already!
Very little to report on ice fishing. I think most people are waiting for ice to leave our area lakes. We will be at the Morris Spring Expo next Friday and Saturday. Stop by and say hi!
Wheelers and portable fish houses are recommended for all area lakes. Ice on shorelines is unsafe. Very little fishing reports for past week.
Waska and most area lakes have 20-24 inches of ice thickness. The problem on Waska is the shorelines are muddy and thin ice. I saw a full size pickup with wheel house break through the ice on DNR access yesterday. I would advise wheelers and small portables only on Waska. These conditions apply to all area lakes.
Last weekend of gamefish season. Not a lot of houses left on the area lakes. Best chance to catch walleyes and crappies would be lake Emily. Have not heard anything good on any other area lakes.
Same as last week. Walleyes are slow state wide. It's that time of the season and is expected. Can't even give any lakes that have a good panfish bite.
Same as last week. Lots of phone calls about walleyes and ice thickness. Waska ice is good but walleyes are slow. Had customers in this past week that said walleyes are slow on Leech, Winnie, Cass, and most other lakes in Mn. It is that time of the year.
Inconsistent every where. Late night walleye bite on Waska. No other good walleye reports. Sunfish are slow. Crappies starting to bite on Glenwood side after dark.
Walleye fishing has gotten better with the warmer weather. On Waska the best depth has been 17-19 feet. Use fatheads and BB Rattlers. Also shiner minnows have worked really well. Best times have been from 4:00 to 7 ;00 in afternoon. Still a good walleye bite late at night. Reno same as Waska. Lake Emily has been hot for walleyes. No reports for sunfish. Crappies are starting on Glenwood side from 5:00 to 8:00 at evening.
Ice thickness on all area lakes is over 15". Same fishing report as last week. Not many crappies yet on Waska but will get better in Feb.
