It is with deep sadness that we share with our faithful Minnewaska Bait & Tackle customers that co-owner Larry Jensen passed away on Monday, May 24th. Larry was a passionate fisherman, hunter, a master griller/smoker, and a big fan of the MN Twins and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was devoted to his grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them. He was highly regarded by his customers as an authority on the local fishing scene, and was proud to be called ‘Lyin’ Larry’ by all who listened to his weekly fishing report on the radio station KMRS out of Morris, MN. He was 73 years old.
Larry is survived by Diane, his wife of 52 years and co-owner of Minnewaska Bait, his sons Mike (Renae) and Matthew (fiancée Amber Aspengren) grandkids Wesley, Mitch, Eve, Elizabeth, Ivy, and Parker. The Jensen family invites you to join us in a celebration of Larry’s life on Tuesday, June 22 at the bandshell in City Park in Starbuck, MN. Visitation at 11am-1pm, Service at 1pm. Boat-ins are encouraged! Larry would have loved that. Please wear your favorite hunting or fishing apparel. Read the full obituary here.
The Jensen family is deeply grateful for your continued support and condolences. Many of you have stopped in to the store to tell us your ‘Larry stories’, and they mean so much to us. Minnewaska Bait will remain open, however we will have some limited hours during the week as we figure out our new normal in the weeks and months ahead.
